The steamer is just great - easy to use, easy to clean and effective. I have just bought a timer plug for it, which I think will be helpful because it does take an hour if you include the time to start steaming as well as the time steaming. So I think it will be useful to have it coming on before I get to my barn.

The bag is a bigger capacity than I expected and a very large haynet fits in no problem. The steamed hay is very palatable and also it cools down to eating temperature quickly, which is useful.

There are so many advantages compared to soaking hay - cleaner, sweeter hay, less water wastage, no hanging up dripping, soaking haynets and getting wet legs!

I really like the long tube, which allows the tank and power to be safely in my barn, but the steaming bag to be outside

I wish you all the best with your products

Best wishes

"I purchased the Traveller Steamer after one of my horses was diagnosed with ROA. When his symptoms started (heaves, wheezing and difficulty breathing) we tried wetting his hay and misting his bedding with water, the symptoms continued so he was put on Azium and later the drug Albuteral when the Azium did not seem to be giving him any relief. Even the Albuteral, given twice a day, did not stop him from wheezing when he was ridden. When he tried to go for a canter around his pasture with his buddy he would end up needing to stop, obviously trying to catch his breath and unhappy he couldn't run and play with our other horse like he used to. The drugs also made him edgy and seemed to bother his stomach, making him a bit colicky at times.

I hoped giving him steamed hay might at least help to cut down the dust and mold allergens so that we might see some improvement, instead I was thrilled with the outcome! After giving him the steamed hay for 2 weeks his symptoms improved greatly, he no longer heaved when exercised and his wheezing was only minimal. The best part about steaming his hay was the ability to take him completely off the drugs. His steamed hay and an all natural supplement for horses with allergies, allow him to be ridden and to run and play in the pasture like he used to without difficulty breathing. He loves the steamed hay and wants to push his nose down into the warm bag for a bite before I get a change to take it out and put it in his manger. Setting up the steamer is easy and everyone comments on the nice smell the steaming hay gives off.

I ordered the smallest model first, the Traveller, because I wanted to see if steaming hay 'worked' for my horse's condition. It definitely 'worked' so I recently purchased the larger Stable Mate model as we are relocating from the East to West Coast, to an area of California where pasture grass is almost non-existent so hay is fed even more. When I receive the larger Stable Mate model I will also give my other horse (who has no breathing issues) the steamed hay as a preventative measure and will continue to use the Traveller, I'll need it for the horses's hay on their journey out to CA!"

Thank you Happy Horse Hay Steamers, for your excellent product and customer service, and most of all for giving my horse his quality of life back!

"Hay is the most natural feed for horses when stabled as it can be fed ad-lib and thereby help to prevent boredom and associated vices, while also helping to maintain a healthy digestive system and helping to prevent the development of gastric ulcers. However, a horse's performance can be severely hampered by poor respiratory health and repeated exposure to the dust, dust mites and fungal spores that are inevitably present in even the best quality hay can severely compromise a horse's respiratory system. Steaming hay is a great option that helps to dramatically reduce exposure to the allergens found in hay, helping to keep a horse's lungs clean and clear. We've been using a Happy Horse Hay Steamer for several months now and find it a valuable addition to Troytown Veterinary Hospital. Ideal for horses that have already developed respiratory problems, while also being a sound option to help prevent such problems occurring in the first place, we believe that these steamers will make a significant impact in the fight against respiratory disease in all horses - from race horses, show jumpers and eventers, to the pony club pony. We have also been trialling it during recovery in some of our post-operative colic patients, where it is proving extremely useful."

We have been vigorously putting one of these steamers through its paces and have to say we are seriously impressed; we LOVE it. We did wonder if it would be an extra 'chore' to add to our daily list of jobs but it really has turned out to be a doddle - we simply fill the water tank, put the hay in the chamber, set the timer and forget about it! The steamer starts up an hour before we need the hay so it's hot and fresh, ready to serve to the boys! The hay itself practically falls apart when you take it out of the steamer and the horses love it when it's warm and steaming! Knowing that we are feeding our horses hay in the best way possible to them makes it even more worthwhile. No more messy soaking; full steam ahead!

Shuil Coillte back on form thanks to his new Stable Mate Steamer

Shuil Coillte wins the 'Winners of Two' races at the Shillelagh & District Foxhounds' point-to-point in Ireland and trainer Anne Lambert credited his victory to her new Stable Mate hay steamer from Happy Horse.

"This horse has been plagued with allergies for the past three years," said Ann, who both owns and trains the nine year-old, "but he has really come to back to himself since I started using the steamer." Shuil Coillte first came to public attention when winning a maiden point-to-point on his debut as a four-year-old and after that he had his attention turned to the Future Event Horse League. Again first time out, he won a qualifier at Rathbawn that summer under Clare Lambert, finishing sixth in the 2005 league. The horse was then sent to the racetrack proper and he finished third in a Fairyhouse bumper and second in a beginners' chase at Navan. "He has had his problems since then," said Ann, "but I really hope those are behind him now, thanks to the steamer."

Our new Hay Steamer is very easy to use. The capacity is perfect for our five Icelandics and makes the whole job of soaking hay in these conditions so much easier! It was so cold last night I nearly jumped in to get warm!

Cheers again

I have been using the 'Happy Horse Hay Steamer' for several years, and recently upgraded to the Professional Steamer and have found it to be truly amazing. It is robust and yet 'smart' in design, and fits very neatly into the yard, thus making it practical and unobtrusive. It is so easy to use, and the fact that it takes Nets, Sections, or indeed a whole Bale makes it so versatile for everyday use. The Timer is a great feature, as it now means I can just set it to Steam for however long I wish, and go, without the worry of somebody having to turn it off.

From my horse's point of view, they get their hay just as they like it, steamed to perfection, they waste absolutely nothing, and as they love it so much, they obviously know that 'steamed is best' !!!!

From my point of view, I am delighted to know that I am feeding my horses a dust and spore free feed, that has maintained its nutritional value, in an extremely palatable state. All of this with the benefit of no waste or effluent, no wet trousers or puddles around the yard, and no heavy lifting and draining of wet hay... I also have the Traveller Steamer, which means my horses can maintain their diet exactly whilst away from home, whether away for just one night, or a longer stay.

I could not be more thrilled with my Happy Horse Hay Steamers, and neither could my horses.

"Racehorses can acquire many problems without us adding more. The Happy Horse Hay Steamer takes all the guesswork out of feeding hay, with consistent quality every time."

I prefer to feed hay than haylage as I believe it's a more natural diet, but we then have had to soak a lot of our hay to reduce dust. By changing to a Happy Horse Hay Steamer, life has been made so much easier! The horses eat the steamed hay better, there's less waste and there's no coughing on the yard. With our steamer we're saving time, water and money - I can't recommend it highly enough.

"My Happy Horse hay steamer is proving to be invaluable. It is quick and easy to operate and being able to set it up on a time switch is really useful - the hay is then ready when I arrive home from work in the week and it is easy to change the settings if I need hay at different times at the weekend. Handling the hay is much easier than dealing with cold, wet and heavy soaked hay on dark winter nights and Midget prefers the steamed hay and appears to really be benefitting from it from a respiratory point of view. The steamer does take up a quite a lot of room, but one spin off to having it inside is a lovely warm feed room! It was a fantastic prize to win and is a really useful innovation. Thank you Happy Horse!"

"All our horses are now running better than they have at any stage over the last two years. Our steamer is definitely making a difference!"

Horse & Rider Magazine, the UK's No1 best-selling Equestrian Monthly recently tested the Professional Hay Steamer and we're thrilled to say that they loved it! Here's what their tester had to say:

"I love this product! I've been soaking hay for four horses, which is a wet, messy job and isn't great for your back, amongst other things. The steamer is quick, easy and more effective than soaking, and the haynets are much lighter - I can't imagine going back to soaking!"

"Our Happy Horse Hay Steamer is the ideal solution for eliminating dust, mites, spores and bacteria from hay, helping to keep our horses fit, healthy and sound of their wind. It's simple and easy to use and I know I can rely on it to give me a healthy, cost effective alternative to haylage whilst maintaining a natural diet. I am really impressed by the results and my horses love eating their steamed hay!"

"Just a note to say how pleased I am with my Hay steamer, it really is one of the best pieces of equipment I have ever bought. Both my horses cough during the winter, when stabled but no coughs at the moment and no additives to keep their wind clear. What I save on supplements will more than cover the purchase of the steamer. Thank you so much"

This new size hay steamer can steam up to one small bale at a time. Easy to use, it introduces steam to the hay, to penetrate at approximately 100˚C. At this temperature, the majority of fungal spores, bacteria and dust mites present are killed off, and all potentially airborne dust particles are sufficiently dampened down and neutralised, but the hay is still complete with all its vital minerals! Three other models are available.

Tester George and Lauren Dolby with their horses CJ and Red

"The Happy Horse hay steamer arrived for us to test at exactly the right time. Our seven-year-old eventer injured herself and had six weeks of box rest in early June. Subsequently, our 19-year-old TBx had an allergic reaction and also ended up spending time stabled. Our hay consumption escalated to winter levels! Following her allergic reaction, Red was eating very little and also developed a mild cough. This all changed once she was presented with steamed hay - she couldn't get enough and her cough quickly disappeared. We found the steamed hay was in big demand and went very quickly! We tended to steam our hay in haynets and this worked really well for us, but you could fit a complete bale in the steamer. The steamer has been easy to use and we've definitely seen the benefits of feeding steamed hay - we don't miss soaking hay at all! The only minor adjustment I would suggest is the drain plug in the base was big enough for cleaning the unit, but an extended hose with a tap for draining off waste water would simplify this part of the operation."

"Since using the Happy Horse Hay Steamer my horses have enjoyed a natural, healthy, balanced diet retaining all the vital vitamins and minerals without dust and potential respiratory health risks associated with hay. It has saved us water and is much cleaner around the barn as well as making moist hay lighter and easier to maneuver!"

I've been using my Hobby steamer for 6 weeks now and it has been the perfect solution to my horse's problem with small airway disease. He has stopped coughing and is able once again to work and compete normally. For the previous four months he could barely canter a 20m circle and had several courses of medication.

Our hay is good but he clearly could not cope so I am delighted with his recovery. I am so impressed, that both my horses now have steamed hay, and they both love it, particularly when it comes warm and fresh from the steamer.

I have been recommending the system to all my friends!

Now that I have had my steamer for about a month, I must let you know how pleased I am with it. Bridie and Rolo love their warm hay, and I love not having to carry heavy wet hay nets around. As a bonus the feed room has the chill taken off on cold mornings!

Catherine Holmes

Wonderful product!. No more lifting wet heavy hay nets especially good on days when the water tanks are frozen .The hay smells lovely when it is steaming and the horses really enjoy it. Wish I had one years ago.

Thank you

I have the Hobby Deluxe and my friend has the Hobby Plus steamer. We keep our two horses together and use the above steamers together. My friends horse does develop a cough if his hay is not steamed and has been using her steamer since the summer without a cough developing and she is more than pleased with her steamer. I purchased the Hobby Deluxe. My horse has never suffered with a cough (fingers crossed) but I bought the Hobby Deluxe has a preventative measure. Also with it being such a bad summer, the hay is not as dust free as it could be. We find the steamers very easy to use and are quick and efficient. A friend purchased one about 6 years ago and it has never let her down. I would recommend that if anyone was going to consider buying one, to buy the Hobby Deluxe. An excellent product!

I thought I should email and say how FANTASTIC the machine is. It meets every expectation, is on 4 times a day and since it arrived, no one has coughed. THANK YOU!

"Many thanks for the "Happy Horse Traveller Steamer" that you were so kind to send me as a magazine competition prize. The quality of the hay I feed is of increasing concern to me as my M & M WHP "Ozzie" is sixteen years old and the steamer is a valuable aid to ensure his respiratory health."

For health, for performance, for peace of mind.
